Hubbard's School is offering After-school Hours classes in ATAR subjects to improve an ATAR score or to make a student ATAR eligible.
Hubbard’s School understands that the new ATAR system requires students to approach subjects in a different way. Perhaps low results in Year 9 and 10 have disqualified some students from being ATAR eligible. Or, maybe a student hasn’t been able to study Chemistry, English or Mathematical Methods to satisfy a university pre-requisite. Even a timetable clash can get in the way of getting the ATAR wanted!
The good news is, in 2020, Hubbard's School will be offering ATAR subjects in their After-School Hours Classes to assist students with their ATAR goals. This customized option is a versatile alternative to tutoring. In designing this alternative choice of study to meet ATAR goals, the Hubbard’s School Principal, Cathy Pappalardo, has emulated the successful approach of the Hubbard’s Day School “the program will be delivered in small class groups which will allow students to receive individualized support,” says Ms. Pappalardo. “We have a proud history of preparing students to sit External Examinations. This program, as an addition to standard schooling, will enable students to realize their ATAR goals” she said.
Potential outcomes for students in this program include reaching ATAR eligibility, satisfying university pre-requisites, and fine-tuning the knowledge and skills of students already studying Year 11 and 12 ATAR subjects. From the initial phone call, Hubbard's provides students with guidance and support to facilitate a goal-oriented pathway to their post-school options.
Students can study at Hubbard’s whilst being concurrently enrolled at their current school. General English, Mathematical Methods, Chemistry, Philosophy & Reasoning as well as Chinese are all offered outside normal school hours, starting from 4:30pm. There are many aspects of the Hubbard’s pedagogical approach that makes it successful:
- Knowledge and subject-specific exam skills are taught in-depth in each subject.
- Students supplement their knowledge and build on their skills by studying at home and completing homework.
- There are no assignments in any subject at Hubbard’s!
- Subjects are studied over five hours per week from January to October each year and are taught by registered teachers who are passionate about their subject areas and experts at preparing students for External Exams.
The Year 11 and 12 knowledge of each subject is offered in one academic year. Studying a subject at Hubbard’s cannot adversely affect an existing ATAR assessment. Only a student’s top five ATAR qualified subject results - across all results gained at Hubbard's and their existing school - will count toward their final ATAR. The Hubbard’s After-School Hours Classes maximize the potential of each student.
