Student Success Stories

At Hubbard's we are proud to support our young athletes in their pursuit of excellence, and we congratulate them in their success!
One such student is one of our Seniors, Dannielle Jones. These words from Danni's parents express it all.

"Enabling the achievement of dreams with a great work-life balance"
Our daughter, Dannielle Jones, attended a wonderful elite private girls school in an inner northern suburb of Brisbane with a plethora of sporting, cultural and musical activities on offer outside of our formal learning.

Being a ‘all-rounder’ sportsperson, and avid debater, we soon noticed that Danni was becoming increasingly more busy and stressed representing her school in debating, multiple QGSSSA sporting games such as cricket, softball, netball, badminton, swimming and athletics (sprints, high-jump, javelin, discus and shot put) whilst desperately trying to find study blocks to meet her study commitments. We negotiated one less lesson per week through the school’s elite sportsmanship program to compensate for lost time to study, however, that simply did not cut it to get through all of the assignments and studies.

Danni was required to attend before school team practice, after school team/athletics practice whilst attending school five days a week – over time she became increasingly stressed, anxious and simply exhausted as she struggled to manage so many competing demands on her time. Collectively, this resulted in having no days off during the week except for school holidays, as she needed to study on Sundays to compensate for time lost competing in sporting events during the week and on Saturday’s.

One day, concerned about Danni’s mental health and wellbeing, we asked two crucial questions: ‘Where do you want to be in five years time?’ and ‘Is what you are doing now going to get you there?’ These two questions turned our lives around.

We learnt that our daughter feels very passionate about the environment and our ocean life, especially after participating in year 10 in the Actura CASE Senior Ocean school during the September school holidays. She shared with us that she wants to become a Marine Biologist, get her diving certification, and to focus only on athletics (not all the team sports).

As parents, we decided that it was time for an alternative, particularly as our daughter enjoyed studying independently during COVID when students studied at home.

We were so delighted to have discovered Hubbards where Danni attends school Monday, Wednesday and Fridays focusing upon completing units 1, 2, 3 and 4 (year 11 and 12) compressed in one year for three subjects. The content simply flows as each unit built on the previous unit coherently through the year. Best of all, Danni receives the gift of two free week-days to access private athletics coaching during the day and spend time researching assignments and reviewing content. For the first time in four years our daughter has been able to have Saturdays off, in addition to, Monday and Friday nights.

The end result has been startling. Danni’s sharp focus and training enabled her to become our 2023 U17 Australian High Jump Champion, in addition to, Queensland Little Athletics State Champion for High Jump, Discus, Shot Put with a silver medal in Javelin. She also won top three at Queensland Athletics State Championships for High Jump, Discus and Javelin.

During the June/July school holidays our daughter achieved her first dive at the outer reef at Airlie beach.

Most importantly, we have noticed that Danni enjoys excellent relationships with her Hubbards teachers, completes all her assigned homework and studies diligently to get the grades she needs to achieve her dream to become a Marine Biologist. Hubbards is all about supporting our young people to get to where they want to go.

Now our daughter is able to share with us that Hubbards has been the solution to get her where she wants to go – with much less ‘background noise’ - enabling a great study-life balance.
